7. You Make Your Own World

The, “Introduction to Philosophy,” says:

Reality is immutable, absolute, and ruthless. Immutable means the nature of reality cannot be changed or ever be other than what it is. Absolute means reality is complete and unconditional; it is all there is and is not contingent on anything. Ruthless means reality determines what is true and not true, and no human feelings, desires, choices, acts, beliefs, or wishes can change it.

No one wants to learn about that kind of reality, but it is the only reality there is. No one wants philosophy because the reality it describes is not nice.

Reality is neither cruel or kind, reality is just what is. It is neither malevolent nor benevolent, but it is the means to all that is worth living for and the source of all that is possible. That possibility includes the fact that every individual is provided with all they need to live successfully and happily and to be all they can be as a human being. It means, your every shortcoming and failure is the result of your own choices and actions. It means, if you are not happy, it is your own fault.

As ruthless and implacable as reality is, it is also the source of infinite possibility. No success is possible in defiance of reality, but knowing what reality is and ordering one’s life by the principles that describe it makes the achievement of anything possible.

The Age Of Gullibility And Paranoia

The twenty-first century, at least at the beginning of it, is an age of dominated by superstition and fear—almost all of it created and propagated by government and academia. It was explained by Mencken:

“Civilization, in fact, grows more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.”

Entire ideologies and philosophies are dedicated to keeping the world in constant fear and uncertainty: pessimistic, cynical, nihilistic existentialism, post-modernism, logical positivism, and cultural Marxism all promote the ideas of a world where happiness and success are not possible, where human being are helplessly evil and ignorant, and where there is nothing to hope for or aspire to, because we all live under constant threats of destruction.

The world is certainly dominated by ignorant and evil human beings who are mostly unhappy failures with no ambition or desire to achieve more than evading pain and death. But it is not the world that has made them that way. What any individual human being is, they are, because it is what they have chosen to be and make of themselves.

Cannot See The Trees For The Forest

There a millions of free, successful, happy individuals in this world, though they are practically invisible (as most of them prefer). [See, “The Privileged,” and “Free Individuals.”] One reason they are invisible is because they are not “news worthy.“They are not politicians, or celebrities, not involved in scandals, crime, war, or terrorism—the free and successful are busy living productive worthwhile lives.

What the mainstream media and all academic propaganda show you is the forest of failed human beings obscuring the individual, “trees,” the successful human beings that really matter.

Collectives Do Not Define Individuals

No matter what society you live in or what kind of society it is, the state of that society does not determine your own personal state. Every society provides resources to every individual, both material resources and intellectual resources. An impoverished society will offer much less in the way of resources, but may offer much more in the way of potential. If you are a producer, there will be a lot less competition in an impoverished society but raw materials may be much more difficult to obtain. Those are practical limits of reality itself.

Conversely, if the society you live in is generally ignorant, that has nothing to do with the limits of your own knowledge. How much you learn and know, especially today depends entirely on what you choose to learn and know. In the midst of the most ignorant of societies there are always some erudite individuals.

As pointed out in the last Daily Freedom article, “Nobody Is A Statistic.” It does matter if a society is statistically wealthy, if you have no money you are poor. It does not matter if a society is statistically sick, if you are healthy you are well, no matter what society is. No matter what the employment statistics are, if you have a job, for you employment is 100%. No one else’s health, success or failure, vices or virtues determine yours.

What to remember: The State of the World is Whatever Your State Is.
