Reginald Firehammer

Randall Saunders went by several pen names, but none had quite the panache and ring of mystery as his most well know–Reginald Firehammer. Under that nom de plume, Randall maintained several websites and wrote articles on many subjects spanning philosophy, religion, politics and culture. He was a fiction writer, too, and wrote several short stores to express his philosophical ideas through the thoughts and actions of fictional characters.

Randall was a master of rhetoric, and his writing ranged from serious and profound, to burning satire and hyperbole. But whatever he wrote, serious or not, it was written with an original and authentic voice that was unafraid to argue with conviction for whatever he held as true.

Firehammer’s Writing

When Randall died in 2022 his website–and all his writing with it–disappeared from the Internet. However, much of his work was archived by the Wayback Machine. I, your humble Curator, intend to preserve and present a selection of what remains of Randall’s writings for the edification of those individuals who will appreciate his work.

Randall wrote a lot of essays and stories, so where to start?

Read what Randall had to say about himself in his own words.

Randall’s writing’s on philosophy are your humble Curator’s favourites of his works, so I must recommend the following:

Autonomist Philosophy lays out Randall’s views on metaphysics, ontology, and perception. I find the ontological hierarchy of differentiation to be fascinating, and I think his writing on the nature and validity of perception to is groundbreaking.

The Autonomist Notebook is a heady commentary on philosophy and culture blending sharp insights and prickly humour.

Randall was an individualist, and his views on individualism inform much of his work.
