Notes on wrong views
There are no guarantees in life, but some things are certain. There is no guarantee if you drink water you will not die but it is certain if you don’t drink water you will die of thirst. There is no guarantee if you eat you will never be sick but it is certain if you don’t eat the right things you will be sick and if you do not eat at all you will starve to death.
A Tool, Not A Weapon Logical proof is a tool, a method of ensuring one’s reasoning and thinking is correct. Today, the word, “proof,” has become a weapon in the hands of those who wish to obfuscate the truth and put over ideas without any foundation or reason. The Meaning Of Proof Philosophers have made the meaning of truth so obtuse that almost anything can be put over as, “proof,” while anything truly proved is denied as impossible.

Anti-intellectualism [NOTE: This article is republished from the Mind-benders series of articles published between 2005 and 2011, in conjunction with the current article, “Pedagogy.”] Education As Mind Bending One of the changes in education that has been most disastrous is the change in emphasis from principles and concepts to an emphasis on content and results. The former emphasis was based on the essential nature of humans as volitional beings who are required by their natures to live by conscious choice.

“Importance,” is a value term, and like all value terms, is a term of relationship. Like all other values, importance is only a value relative to some human objective or purpose, some goal relative to which a thing has some relevance—negative importance if it hinders or prevents achieving the goal, positive importance if it is necessary to and makes possible achieving the goal. Like all other values, nothing is just important, nothing is intrinsically significant or necessary.

Paul Baran was a true creator and individualist.
Harry Browne defines freedom as living your life as you want to live it.

The original article by the same title was a response to the question, what if freedom, in the libertarian sense, resulted in a society or culture one did not like? The question suggests two mistaken assumptions, 1. that the objective of a political ideology is the “right” kind of society and culture, and 2. that there is some “social” or “political” means of producing that “right” kind of society or culture.

Privilege may be defined as a special advantage or prerogative enjoyed by some individuals. The word is used these days as a pejorative. To call someone, “privileged,” is tantamount to calling them evil, dangerous, or dishonest. Privilege is a kind of power, the power to do or enjoy something only those with that power can do or enjoy. There are two kinds of power: political power and economic power. The distinction is usually glossed over as a means of asserting political power over economic power.

In 1969, Roy Childs, Jr. wrote, “Objectivism and the State An Open Letter to Ayn Rand,“which is much more important as a description of all that is wrong with the concept of government than a criticism or Rand’s view of government, because there is no form of government that is ethically or objectively right. Having thoroughly delineated all that is wrong with government, which he refers to as the, “state,” and demonstrating that all forms of government are oppressive and immoral enterprises, he advocates anarchism as a kind of solution to governments existence.

The description of freedom in the article, “Freedom Not For Everyone” is a generic description. But what freedom is for any particular individual will be different for each individual. In this article, it is your own personal freedom that will be discussed. Freedom is not the same as, “liberty.” Liberty is a political concept and means something granted to or, “provided,” by some agency of force—that is, a government. Liberty is not freedom, liberty is what some controlling agency allows or gives you permission to do.
The first requirement for living a free successful life is knowing one can and must consciously choose everything they do.
Independence is the primary virtue of being a free individual. Dependence means being tied to some authority or obligation by which one’s own choice are restricted. One cannot be free without being independent of all possible external limitations or strictures. Independence is often contrasted with collectivism because collectivism is the view that everyone is dependent on some collection or group of individuals. This is unfortunate, because the true nature of individual freedom is not an, “-ism,” not an ideology, and not political.
Is it for you?
