In my previous Daily Freedom, “No Dilemma” I quoted a paragraph from an old article about independence and objectivity relative to moral issues. The old article, which I’ll warn is very long, has now been recovered and made part of the Independent Individualist’s permanent articles, and is entitled, “Freedom Now.”
Though written long ago, the article touches on almost every essential issue of freedom the Free Individual addresses, and I think it is a good primer for thinking about achieving ones own freedom. It is a long article, but worth reading, perhaps in sections.
The first section of the article captures part of a discussion with some Objectivists who do not quite dare use the word “duty” but plainly express the idea that those who do not participate in the “Objectivist movement,” but use their resources to secure their own freedom, are in some way betraying some unidentified “obligation.” This obvious anti-individualist collective view is rampant in Objectivist and Libertarian circles. Let this be a warning to you, if you successfully make yourself free, and you should, it will not be either appreciated or understood by most of those who are part of any so-called freedom movement.
[Today’s Regi Says “They Love Their Servitude” also referes to that recovered article, “Freedom Now.”]
