Limited Resources
We all have limited resources. There is only so much time in a day, there is only so much mental energy we can expend on anything we must think about. One thing that can easily interfere with our pursuit of freedom and living our lives as we choose are distractions from what is really important to our lives and freedom. One of the biggest of such distractions is politics, especially the politics of world affairs.
What I pointed out in my article, “The Egypt Gyp,” was how the recent riots in Egypt, and the growing turmoil throughout the Middle East is all being put over as some kind burning political issue that we must all be concerned with, which is all a Big Lie, and the only issue about the Middle East that concerns most of us is the amount of our money that is being wasted in the Middle East as foreign aid. Since there is little to nothing we as individuals can do about that, the whole Middle East issue is mostly an unimportant distraction that can easily interfere with our own freedom efforts.
Today’s International Living article, however, does point out something about the Middle East turmoil that might be important to some independent individualists. That something is what I also emphasized in my own article, food. I pointed out that the price of food has risen almost 300% in Egypt, and many of the riots are food riots because of the accelerating food shortages.
The IL article does explain some of the reasons for rising food prices, although it is wrong about so-called “climate destabilization,” and it is those rising food prices, along with general inflation itself, that could be an important issue for some independent individualists in terms of long-term investments. The article explains how and why.
While all of the political aspects of the Middle East turmoil are for the individualist non-issues, the real reason for the riots, food prices and food shortages, might actually be an issue of importance.
